Barry Harris on Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland
Переглядів 21 тис.6 років тому
Barry Harris is a seminal figure in the jazz world. The "keeper of the bebop flame," as critics have called him, Harris is committed to preserving jazz through education and performance. His workshops play an important part in his life and in the lives of many young musicians. On this 2002 episode of Piano Jazz, Harris demonstrates how he earned a reputation as one of the most inventive and res...

Check out Kiko at andertons with Lee. It’s wonderful, kiko is. Guthrie too. Both great interview episodes. I want to hear kiko and Guthrie play more, including them talking about music together. These guys are so freaking great. And lari Basilio, who is also so gorgeous in addition. She has everything going at once, superhuman superhottie sweetheart music monster. Thanks Brazil.
Look at his hands, at moments it seems GG might have killed Inigo Montoya’s father. Actually it was Nigel from Spinal Tap, somewhat literally. These go to eleven. My plum pro junior goes to twelve. Two louder.
Well we have all known for a long while that GG is a legit wizard, yes at the guitar but also teaching and explanation and inspiration, and this video has incredible tone, no fizz, gravel not sand down the slide. Very evocative, one moment I’m thinking Les Paul into Marshall chewy crunchy seventies Billy gibbons and mh flirting with disaster and allman bros rip dickey and Derek slide tones, then he rolled back the tone on the neck HB clean and I got the smooth jazz tone from the Walgreens phone line waiting music. He’s so good, his music is prismatic, but he can even make wordless humor! Now that i think of it, I need to get a GG poster or tshirt for the inspiration. Also, I have a 2012 factory special run American special satin nitro strat that I love, I always wonder if fender sprayed the body in Mexico before bringing it to Corona for assembly. For whatever reason they are quite easy to find online and pricing hasn’t gotten too inflated. It has big fat frets and is so comfy for everything, especially bending and leads. I highly recommend it stock with its American standard pickups, or as a modding platform, or even as a Guthrie inspired instrument if you don’t want to shell out for a suhr or charvel gg, or settle for a Harley Benton or iyv gg copy, although I’d imagine the latter might surprise as more affordable guitars can these days. Censtar, a brand I’ve only seen on Amazon (US) has an HSH that seems gg suhr inspired, edge burst and all minus the rear routed trem system, got it in one of those random daily discount deals sub $200, and damn it’s a great guitar, not just for the price, but in sound feel and vibe. Lastly, I must have grown up without fancy heirloom furniture, bc people calling pretty guitars furniture pretty is opposite for me. I gutted and rehabbed my house and chose maple cabinetry in the bathrooms with a medium caramel stain. To my surprise and delight, there are many sections of beautifully figured maple, and I think, hey that look would be sexy on a guitar. Is it true that curly maple necks are less stable? Bc I love the look. I love satin finish for feel and looks, similarly to how I like roasted maple, or caramelized, baked, torrified, or whatever whoever calls it. I’ve always wanted to be a one awesome guitar man and just focus on making music, but I’m compulsive and now have so many guitars of all types I’ve lost count, from $89 Amazon strat to a many $G custom Alembic and many in between. 25.5” scale humbucker 24 fret guitars are my jahm, stacking some drive of the day with a tube screamer into a squishy compressor post drive with ambient effects and a looper into an edge of breakup tube amp, simple like a pro junior, Carmen ghia, Victoria Ivy League. All I need. And spring water. And beefsteak. And premium flower. And friends. And UA-cam. And pretty women. Got high and rambled. Oops.
Absolutly incredible
id love to buy a suhr but the cheapest ones are around 3500 euro :<
Beautiful D Aquisto!
👏🏾👏🏾
I'll keep coming back to this as long as I love the guitar.
lets see that hog already... nearly five minutes in. no hog.
Why he’s never became a major star is beyond me. A total virtuoso and movie star looks. Maybe because he didn’t sing?
i like more this version ua-cam.com/video/oPUcO9TK9j8/v-deo.html ❣
That was some wonderful playing!
His name isn't "the other guy". Take the time to say his name. Armand. Julian and Armand are still tight friends and cocreaters.
Is there any other video from that night?
hahahaha that sweet child of mine in another tone was amazing.... the humour he throws hahahahahah
Sin palabras....
So glad I stumbled on this video. One of the best Hog moments I've encountered. So inspiring. Thanks. 😎🤓
But what did he do? I followed him a lot, incredible guitarist
I wonder if Guthrie and Suhr had a falling out.
He is a person who understands the laws of nature according to Buddhism. He learns music just like we all learn languages. Freedom + love + passion + discipline is key here. He also travels to expand his musical ideas. His parents must have understood life for which we should be grateful because the music in the family inspired him to study music. So now we have Guthrie, guitar’s God We can all be gods! By understanding yourself and consciousness.
Best title on UA-cam ! Had lessons with him in his ArtistWorks days sending videos back and forth ... man is a LEGEND !!!
One of the best jazz records of all time, produced by: some guy with an iphone
2.15 gave me a twitch
This is fucking biblical 😮
they made an amazing song here.
Lol tonewood
I always rewatch this video and it's always a great experience since 2014!!!
Man this was so sick.
Wow that is some low action string height!
This is like so molecular .. I i got to drop that A to a B someday!,,lol Amazing
Es un delirio esto
it's still my number #1 go-to for technique and style ✌
What's he doing instead of jazz now?
He compose songs for kpop industry , there was interviews about that ( you can find on ytb)
Lets give a nod to Marian McPartland who passed back in 2013, a UK born jazz pianist. She could cut the mustard, even though she did not become famous in the world of jazz. You can tell Barry Harris has respect for her, and she for him. Thanks to You Tube, we can see footage of both.
I only wished I saw her play in Jazz Alley when I lived in Seattle, too young to appreciate history as it happens, saw it advertised, as long as many other giants I missed. I had a chance to a few.
Very nice conclusion and solution!I like it !
Kurt Rosenwinkel is my main man!
What pedal is he using?
EHX HOG freeze
Sounds like ode to a kudo.
Transcribed solo?😊
